Earth Day Adventures

Earth Day Adventures

This week is April vacation for Boo Boo and I’m trying to get in a few fun things that we don’t have time to do in a normal week.  I decided that today since the rain had cleared we would have some Earth Day Adventures.  We drove to my moms house, loaded into her car, and headed down to my dads work for our first adventure of the day.

My dad works at a local terminal for a large shipping company and today I called to see if we could come down for a tour.  I had intended to take the kids down sooner after we moved back to Maine three years ago but it just didn’t happen.  I’m honestly glad it didn’t because Buddy enjoyed the tour so much today!  Buddy loves trains and any sort of heavy equipment – he’s a manly little boy 🙂  Boo Boo enjoyed seeing the equipment as well but Buddy was in his element.

The highlight of the tour was getting to go in the massive crane they use to unload ships.  The kids nicknamed it “T-Rex”.  The picture below shows only the bottom portion of the crane as I would have had to move really far back to get the entire crane.  The cab you can see in the picture is where the kids got to sit.  They were so impressed and had an awesome time!

We let my father get back to work and headed out to pick up Subway for lunch.  After we got Subway we headed  out for our second adventure.  We drove to a local park on the coast to have a picnic lunch and then let the kids play on the playground.  Its so nice to get out and enjoy the warmer weather after the horrible winter we had!

We had started our Earth Day fun last night.  The kids planted some seeds in the chalkboard planters they made at the Home Depot Kids Workshop on Easter.  You can attend these free events at Home Depot’s near you – check their website for dates and upcoming workshops.  We love them!
