Festive Kid Made Candy Cane & Ribbon Ornaments
In our house the Christmas spirit abounds! I love making holiday crafts with the kids and finding inspiration from the Christmas books we read. This ornament takes its inspiration from one of my childhood favorites – A Thousand Candy Santas by Daphne Doward Hogstrom. My copy is well loved and something I treasure. We made these fun and easy candy cane & ribbon ornaments in under 30 minutes.
Materials Needed
- Candy canes (two per ornament)
- Curling ribbon
- Gift bows
- Tape
- Scissors
Instructions
- Place the candy canes together back to back. Wrap a piece of tape around the top (under the curl) to hold the candy canes together.
- Wrap another piece of tape around the bottom of the sticks to help keep the candy canes together.
- Cut a piece of ribbon (18 inches – 24 inches).
- Use a small piece of tape to secure the end of the ribbon to the bottom of the candy canes.
- Start wrapping the ribbon tightly around the candy canes (younger children will need help with this step).
- Wrap the ribbon around the candy canes until you reach the curl.
- If you have extra ribbon cut it off.
- Secure the end with a small piece of tape.
- Cut another piece of ribbon (12 inches) and tie it securely under the curls. Make a loop with the ends to serve as a hanger.
- Add a gift bow to the candy canes just under the curls (we found that you needed a piece of tape to secure this).
- Display!
The kids and I had a lot of fun reading A Thousand Candy Santas and making this easy but cute ornament. They have both hung them up – Buddy choose to add it to our gingerbread tree and Boo Boo put her’s on her bedroom tree.
This post is part of the 10 Days of a Kid-Made Christmas series hosted by Mama Miss – make sure you take a peak at all of the other ornaments.
