Homemade Dog Ice Cream

Today I honestly feel horrible – I have finally managed to get whatever bug the kids have had for the last week and a half.  After I type this up I’m headed to bed for a while.

We have a big weekend coming up – we are going to a family birthday party on Saturday and then having Tool & Zoe’s big birthday celebration on Sunday.  Tool loves turkey so we are having a full on turkey dinner to celebrate him!  I always make the dogs homemade doggie ice cream (like Frosty Paws) for their birthdays.  Today the kids and I whipped it up so it would be frozen and ready to go.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 tbs peanut butter
  • 2 tbs honey
  • 32 oz plain yogurt

We used my stand mixer to whip this up.  First  Buddy put the ripe banana in and mashed it up.

Next I added the peanut butter and honey and mixed it in.  Finally the kids and I  added the yogurt and blended until smooth.

I used mini muffin tins to freeze the ice cream into individual sized treats.  I also decided to make some that were bigger in my Mickey Mouse silicone baking tray.  I sprayed the tins to help ensure the ice cream will pop out instead of stick.  DO NOT USE MUFFIN TINS!  I thought the ice creams would be cute like this but they are very hard to get out.  I have previously used ice cube trays and you can pop them right out – this is what I would recommend!  The silicone baking trays work well too.

I used my small pampered chef cookie scoop and filled the tins.  Don’t I have the cutest helpers??

After the tins were filled I moved them to the freezer.  The whole time we were working the dogs were in the kitchen.  They both LOVE peanut butter.  Now every time I open the freezer Tool sticks his head in to sniff.

So now we are one step closer to party ready for an awesome puppy birthday party!  I hope this bug moves quickly for me – but if you don’t see anymore posts for a few days you will know why.  I’m off to bed!
