Cheap and Easy DIY Child Friendly Festive Felt Christmas Tree
Do your little kids constantly take ornaments off the real tree? Mine surely did when they were younger. I found a picture of a felt Christmas Tree on Pinterest back in 2013 and decided it would be fun and easy to make. When Buddy and I got it out this year I decided to share it here with my readers. The idea has been around for a while but I will share the materials that I used to make our tree.
Materials Needed:
- 1 yard of green felt
- pieces of assorted colors of felt (I used scraps my mom already had but you can purchase small squares of colored felt at craft stores)
- Christmas Cookie Cutters
- Pen
- Scissors
- Glitter Glue or Fabric paint
Instructions:
- Fold the 1 yard of green felt in half and cut out a tree shape (you could make it fancier than ours if you so desired)
- Using the Christmas cookie cutters trace the shapes on the assorted colors of felt and cut out as many ornaments as you would like (this is the time consuming step)
- Get glitter glue or fabric paint and have the kids decorate the ornaments
- Let the ornaments dry
- Attach the tree to the wall wherever you would like (we put ours up with masking tape)
- Decorate!
This is the third year we have had our tree. The kids still enjoy it at ages 5 and 4 but not quite as much as they did when they were younger. This is a great craft to make for baby’s first Christmas and you will get years of enjoyment from it. The cost was minimal – under $10 which makes it a cheap and easy DIY craft.
