How to Share the Holiday Spirit with the Elderly

How to Share the Holiday Spirit with the Elderly

I love the holidays and enjoy spending time with my loved ones.  Unfortunately some people don’t have loved ones to visit with and the holiday season can be particularly lonely.  Each year our local Girl Scout troop spreads their holiday spirit by visiting our local nursing home.  Read on to learn how you can easily share the holiday spirit with the elderly as well.

Our local nursing home invites our local Girl Scout troops each year to join them – we sing Christmas carols and they provide sugar cookies for the girls to decorate.  This year I decided that our troop would take it a step further and bring a Holiday Party in a Box to provide the residents of the nursing home another fun holiday activity even after we had gone home.  Read on for my suggestions on what to provide in your box.

The Holiday Party in a Box could be a great idea for anyone – it could be a group like our Girl Scouts or a family looking for a way to help brighten up their family members holiday season in a nursing home.  If you are helping to care for an elderly family member make sure you visit Sam’s Club.  Your membership to Sam’s Club gives you exclusive benefits and can be your one-stop shop for all of your Caregiving needs.  Sam’s Club Family Caregiving looks out for your loved ones needs.  You will find that the Members Mark products are premium quality and at a great value.  All of the products are designed to offer superior protection and comfort.

Sam’s Club is great because it offers Club Pickup – if you are short on time you have the option to order products online for pickup in Club.  If you have the time to shop in Club you have access to many additional services.  While you are shopping you can pick up your prescriptions, get your eyes checked, get your hearing tested or on select days get additional health screenings (check availability at your Club prior to shopping).

While I was in Club I picked up a package of the Member’s Mark Premium Adult Washcloths 240 ct for our Girl Scout troop to donate to our local nursing home.  These Washcloths can be used for multiple purposes ranging incontinence care to hands and face clean-up making them an ideal gift for younger children to give.

The girls enjoy learning the Christmas Carols and singing for the residents and they definitely love decorating sugar cookies and getting to eat them!  We have girls that range from age 5 to age 10 in the troops represented and it is nice to see them interacting with the residents.  This year we will proudly leave them our Holiday Party in a Box and hope that it helps to brighten their holiday season.
