St. Patrick’s Day Playdough

We love playdough in our house and I try to make homemade playdough at least once a month.  We make ours with cream of tartar so it lasts at least three months – sometimes more.  We also have a ton of store bought playdough and playdough accessories.

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day I made the kids new green sparkley playdough – nothing can make playdough more exciting than glitter!  This recipe is from one of the Arts & Crafts Busy Book – see below.  The only change I made was to add glitter.

INGREDIENTS (I doubled the recipe):

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tbs cream of tartar
  • food coloring
  • 1 cup of flour
  • glitter

In the saucepan you mix the water, oil, salt, cream of tartar, food coloring and glitter.  Heat until warm.

Remove from heat, add flour and mix.

Turn out onto the counter and knead until the dough is smooth.  Let cool.

Play!!

We store our homemade playdough in ziploc bags in a tote.  It tends to keep for 3-6 months as long as it is fully sealed when stored.  This super easy playdough recipe can be made in any color or amount.  I typically double the recipe to ensure each kid has a good sized ball to play with.

Let the luck of the Irish be with you!
