Kids in the Kitchen: Making Mother’s Day Cupcakes
Do your kids love to help in the kitchen? Mine do – they love helping to make batter (and definitely licking the bowl!), they love sampling and even decorating. I figured a great project to do together would be to make Mother’s Day Cupcakes. They are happy to help and love to make gifts for people so what better than an edible gift 🙂
Materials Needed
- A box cake mix (and all ingredients required)
- Frosting (store bought or homemade)
- Colored sugar (assorted colors)
- Wax Paper
- Small heart or flower shape to trace
- Pencil
- Scissors
Instructions
- Mix and bake the cupcakes according to the directions on the package (have the kids help with this process as well!)
- Cool cupcakes completely
- Trace the shapes you want to make on your cupcakes onto the wax paper
- Cut out the inside of the shape to leave a stencil
- Give kids a cup with frosting and a knife to spread the frosting
- Once they have completed a cupcake have them pick the stencil and color of sugar they want to use
- Heavily sprinkle the sugar on the open area of the stencil
- Carefully remove the stencil
- Repeat!
Kids could also decorate in any other way. The cupcakes are made with love so I’m sure that any mom would be happy to receive them 🙂
