Today I’m taking a trip down memory lane with everyone back to 1987! Thats right, we’re going back to the 80’s to revisit the first trip I ever took to Disney World. This was a big thing for our family – we flew from Maine to Florida for the big trip – me and my brothers first time on a plane. Below find us waiting for the plane and me and my mom on the plane (please excuse the photo quality as these are pictures taken with my cell phone from my moms photo albums).
This trip we stayed right on the beach and enjoyed much of Florida including the Alligator Farm, a trip to St. Augustine, and also one day spent at Magic Kingdom. Little did my parents know that 14 years later I would return to work there on the Disney College Program (enough of that foreshadowing – there will be a whole blog post about that!)
I couldn’t find a site that lists a 1987 Magic Kingdom map but I found this one from 1989 at Theme Park Brochures. I figure this gives a pretty accurate view of what it was like when we went. My parents tickets must have looked like this from All Ears.
This is a view of the castle from the now extinct Skyway ride on our way to Tomorrowland.
Posing with my dad and brother at the Adventureland sign.
We spent the day in the magic of Disney. I met my first character, flew through the sky’s with Dumbo, got a stuffed Minnie Mouse (that I still have to this day), and left happily for the day with a Mickey Mouse balloon in hand.
We went to Florida in September and as you can tell from the pictures that was a good time to visit back than as well as it is nowadays. I find it amazing at the lack of people in the pictures. The other thing that amazes me is how much Disney World has changed, at this point Magic Kingdom and Epcot were the only two parks. I honestly don’t have a huge memory of this trip but I love looking back at the pictures.
Does anyone have a story of their first trip they would like to share? Let me know and I would be happy to post it and give you credit!
