So we are on snow day number three in the last seven days! Oh my goodness – winter finally found us and found us with a vengeance. We have a ton of snow on the ground and are expected to end up with another 8-18 inches depending on what weather you watch. We are also expecting another storm on Thursday with an estimated 8-12 inches at this time. Can you say holy snow!!
So since we have a snow day I thought I need to come up with an activity for the kids. I went to pinterest and looked on my Valentine’s day board and picked Chocolate Playdough. This recipe comes from Pre-K Pages. I picked this since my kids love playdough and I knew I had all of the ingredients on hand.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp. cream of tartar
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
I put all of the ingredients into a sauce pan and turned on the burner to low heat.
Stir constantly until the mixture starts to thicken and clump into a ball of dough.
I floured the counter lightly and dumped the dough out and I also scrapped the sides of the pan to get the dough out that was stuck.
After the dough cooled enough to handle I started to knead it until it was smooth.
Once cool there’s only one thing left to do – play!!
My kids absolutely LOVE playdough!! We have two totes devoted solely to playdough – one for just dough and one for the toys that we have to play with it.
Happy Snow Day!
