How to Have a Fun Day at a Disney Water Park with Preschoolers

Are you considering a Disney vacation or in the planning process right now?  If you don’t know by now – I LOVE all things Disney!  In my mind there is no place more magical for a family vacation.  For me it wouldn’t be a complete Disney vacation without at least one visit to a water park.   Today I am sharing my tips for a fun day at a Disney Water Park with preschoolers in hopes to help you plan ahead.

On our last vacation our group included my two children, hubby and I, and my parents.  I love looking back at the pictures and thinking of all memories we made 🙂

While planning our vacation we bought our Disney tickets with the Water Fun & More option so we could plan some slower paced days.  This is something that I find essential when traveling with preschoolers.  At the time of our last vacation we had a 4-1/2 year old and an almost three year old.  I planned our trip to have a slower day in between theme park days to allow everyone to rest.  It worked perfectly for us since everyone agreed that spending a day at the water park was a great place to enjoy some rest and relaxation.

I am a planner by nature so prior to our vacation I made multiple packing lists trying to think of everything we might need for each facet of our vacation.  While you honestly don’t need to bring a lot when you go into the water parks there are some essentials that will ensure you have a fun day at a Disney Water Park.

Things to Pack

  1. SUNSCREEN!! (this is a mandatory item – the Florida sun is HOT!)
  2. Bathing suits (I recommend arriving with your bathing suit on)
  3. Huggies Little Swimmers (stock up ahead of time for your vacation at BJ’s Wholesale)
  4. Huggies Natural Care Wipes (great not only for diaper changes but to help clean hands or wipe up a melting ice cream)
  5. Clothes to change back into at the end of the day
  6. Plastic bag for wet clothes
  7. Towels (you can rent them at the park if you don’t want to pack one)
  8. Life jacket (optional – see more information about this below)
  9. Sandals or water shoes – the concrete can get really hot (optional)
  10. Cooler with water bottles/snacks/picnic lunch (optional)

I told you it was a short list!  Everything above that is italicized is optional so really you can head out the door for a fun day at the water parks within minutes.

Prior to leaving for our trip I headed to BJ’s Wholesale to stock up on Huggies Little Swimmers – I easily found a whole end cap display featuring fun Finding Dory themed swim diapers.  I love how convenient the Little Swimmers are for quick water side changes – the easy open sides get us back to our water play fast.

The pack of Huggies Little Swimmers that I picked up included a bonus pack of Natural Care Wipes which is perfect to throw into our bag for diaper changes and wiping up any messes.  I love that as a mom of kids with sensitive skin that I don’t have to worry when using Huggies wipes – they are hypoallergenic, unscented and dermatologically tested.

Family Fun at Blizzard Beach

When we visited Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park we drove to the park – there is ample free parking right outside the park.  If you are staying on Disney property you can also use Disney buses to visit the park.  After we went through the turnstiles into the park we headed straight towards the kids section (Tike’s Peak) and found a shaded pavilion and claimed some chairs for the day.   You can rent a locker at the front of the park to leave valuables in (or just leave them home).

Both days we headed into Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park we brought a cooler in with us that included drinks and snacks.  One day we packed a picnic and the other we got lunch from one of the restaurants.  The water parks have plenty of food and beverage options so you can enjoy anything from fresh doughnuts to turkey legs!

The water parks do provide life jackets – they are on a first come first serve basis though so if it is the busy season they may run out quickly.  I recommend you find a life jacket that fits your child and keep it with you the rest of the day.  When we were there in September we had no problems getting life jackets.

We spent most of our time at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park in the kids section.

We also did a few of the bigger slides, the wave pool, the lazy river and the family raft ride.  I love that you can spend time relaxing as a family!

If you are looking for a break from the parks while still enjoying all that Disney has to offer look no further than their water parks.
