One Rainy Day Story Extension – Umbrella Suncatchers

Spring is finally coming!  In some parts of the country it is already warm and green – up here in Maine we are heading in the right direction (I should be knocking on wood to ward off any late season blizzard right about now!).  We read the fun book One Rainy Day and made Umbrella Suncatchers to celebrate Spring!

One Rainy Day

Materials Needed

• Contact Paper
• Tissue Paper (assorted colors) – cut into small pieces
• Tape 
• Scissors
• Black Construction Paper

Instructions

• Cut two pieces of contact paper to the size you want your finished umbrella.  On one piece tape each corner to your work surface and peel the backing.
• Cut strips of black construction paper to make the outline of an umbrella.
• Cut squares of tissue paper.
• Have your child apply the tissue paper inside the umbrella outline.

• Once finished place the second piece of contact paper on top sealing the tissue paper and umbrella outline.  Rub the top to remove air bubbles.
• Cut extra material off around the outline of the umbrella.
• Tape to a window and enjoy!
