Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday with Krusteaz

Does your family love fall?  The cooler weather and the sports it brings with it?  In our house honestly my husband is the only big football fan but the kids love the colder weather too!  They are eagerly counting the days until the first snow to play in (up here in Maine we actually already had our first snow this week!!).  My favorite thing about cooler weather is the yummy warm foods and smells from the slow cooker all day long!  What better way to have a Sunday Funday then with chili and cornbread from Krusteaz!

We are a Krusteaz family!  Every Saturday morning it is pancake day!  My husband is the pancake master and I love having my breakfast made for me 🙂  We have tried other mixes but never have found one that we love as much so back to Krusteaz we always go.

So this week we decided to serve chili and cornbread for our game day meal.

My chili recipe is pretty basic and it varies from time to time depending on what ingredients I have on hand.  This time it contained dark red and red kidney beans, ground turkey, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, diced onion, diced green pepper, corn, garlic powder, chili powder, and cumin powder.  I typically will start my chili in the slow cooker and have it simmer all day – but you definitely could cook it on the stove top as well.  The flavor is good but not super spicy as my kids wouldn’t eat it if it was to hot – my husband just adds hot sauce to his to kick it up a notch.

My daughter was super excited to help with dinner for our Sunday Funday!  She couldn’t believe that we were making not one but TWO different types of cornbread and that she got to help with both!

First up was one of my favorites – Honey Cornbread!  I love that the Krusteaz products are super easy to make as it allows my kids to really help and take ownership of the project.

Chloe read the ingredients, got them out of the fridge and cupboards, measured, poured and mixed all by herself.  Next up was the new Fire Roasted Cornbread – again Chloe took over the project and got everything mixed up.  We decided for ease of eating in front of the TV we would make our cornbread into mini muffins.  I helped to scoop the batter into the mini muffin tin (I have a 24 hole muffin tin and a 48 hole mini muffin tin that I adore!) as that was the part of the project that took us the longest.  You could easily make one of these recipes and have it mixed and fully baked within 30 minutes which makes it perfect for not missing out on the action of the game!

The muffins were amazing and paired perfectly with our chili and were a nice warm addition to our night!  My favorite was the Honey Cornbread – the Fire Roasted Cornbread has a little bit of spice that comes out and while others loved it just wasn’t for me (I’m with the kids when it comes to non spicy foods though!).  Honey Cornbread is a staple in our house now.  What is your favorite Krusteaz mix?
