Patriotic Fireworks Painting

Memorial Day is coming up next week so I decided that the kids and I needed to do a patriotic craft.  I did my usual search of Pinterest looking for new and different ideas and stumbled across the Fireworks painting found at Crafty Morning.  This looked pretty easy to manage and quite festive.  I was headed out to meet a friend while the kiddos stayed with Bita for a bit so this was a perfect project for a short amount of time.

Materials Needed

  • Flexible Straws (I did 7 in each bunch)
  • Tape (I used duct tape)
  • Paint (Red, Blue, Gold – your preference)
  • White Paper

Instructions

First I bunched seven straws together and used a piece of duct tape to hold them together.  Next I bent their flexible ends out as seen in the picture above.  I made paint plates for each kid with red, blue, and gold paint.  I told them to dip it in and make prints on their paper.  They had a blast and made a lot of pretty awesome fireworks!

If you are wondering about the underwear somedays its just easier 🙂  The kiddos were still in PJ’s when I was ready to do the project so instead of using paint smocks I just told them to paint in their undies.  After painting we cleaned up and they got dressed for the day.  As you can see in the picture below they insisted on some free painting after they finished with fireworks.

The kids enjoyed our Patriotic Fireworks Painting today and we saved our straw bundles to use for future paintings.  If you have any patriotic craft projects you like please let me know and I would be happy to feature them here!
